Dear Parents,
Hello! I am really excited to have all these amazing student in my class again this year at Carihi! I would really appreciate it if you could:
Course Outline: Learning is a partnership between me, your child, and yourself. I encourage you to communicate with me regularly in person, by phone or by email. To make this year as successful as possible, please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you out! Parents: you know your children best so please inform me if you are aware of anything I could do to enhance your child's experience in my class. I will be communicating regularly through email to all parents this year as well as through my website. I am also going to be using "Parent Connect" to track complete and incomplete assignments. Please make sure you can log in and access your child's information and that your personal contact information is correct. If these digital communications are not an option for you, I will arrange to send the information home with your child. Materials needed for this course:- Binder with lined paper
- Pencils and pens - Ruler - Textbook: Sciences 10: Colombie Britannique - Calculator - A good attitude! Also a good idea to have on hand...(This is the stuff students regularly ask me to borrow) - A black felt pen (Sharpie) - Masking tape - Pencil crayons - Hand-held pencil sharpener Attendance:Students are expected to be in regular class attendance and on time. When absent, students are responsible for all missed material. With a prearranged homework buddy, it is easy for your child to find out what was covered in class. If you are aware in advance that your child will be absent we can plan together so he/she will not miss any learning opportunities.
In a semester system, time goes by quickly! One missed class means missing 20 % of material covered in a week. For students to be set up for success, Assessment:Students will be assessed according to their understanding of the provincially designated Science 10 Learning Outcomes. (See p.30 of the Prescribed Learning Outcomes)
Major assignments and tests (summative assessments) will be broken down into learning outcomes which will be assessed on a 4-point scale. 4 - indicates proficient understanding of the topic 3 - indicates good understanding of the topic 2 - indicates basic understanding of the topic 1 - indicates beginning understanding of the topic 0 - indicates incomplete understanding of the topic At Grading periods, understanding of concepts covered up until that point will summarized as a letter grade and a percentage will be given. • ‘A’ shows excellent overall understanding. • ‘B’ shows above average or good overall understanding. • ‘C+/C/C-’ are levels of basic overall understanding. • ‘I’ shows in progress or developing overall understanding. HomeworkHomework will generally consist of assignments that were not finished during class time. Students should always have some kind of homework because they will be more successful if they take time to review class information, even if assignments are all complete.
